Welcome Back — Part 2: What to Do After Arriving in Dubai (Real Experience & Tips)
Welcome back to my blog! In this post, I’m sharing some more of my real experiences and helpful advice for anyone who has just arrived in Dubai. Whether you already have a friend here or are on your own, these steps will help you settle faster, avoid scams, and understand your employee rights in the UAE.
1. If You Have a Friend or Relative in Dubai
If you already have a friend or relative in Dubai, that’s great! You’ll have some support during your first few days. But even if you don’t, don’t panic — it’s still easy to find accommodation and start building connections.
2. Finding a Room or Shared Space
- Post in Facebook groups and expat communities — you’ll get quick replies for available rooms or shared bed spaces.
- Choose areas near industrial or free zones such as Jebel Ali, DIP, or Dubai Industrial City — these areas have lower rents and easier job access.
- Always visit the place personally before paying any rent or deposit.
3. Job Hunting — Visit Companies Directly
Once you’ve settled, the best approach is to print your CV and visit companies in person. If they have openings, they might interview you and issue an offer immediately.
- Stay confident and polite during interviews — avoid overconfidence.
- Never pay money to anyone promising a job. Many scammers target new arrivals.
- Keep applying and visiting until you find the right opportunity — persistence is key.
4. Consultancies vs Direct Hiring
Some companies recruit workers directly, while others use agencies or consultancies. Be careful — some firms hire labourers on short contracts or even daily wages through third parties.
If your company doesn’t start your visa process within one month, consider leaving. Working on a visit visa is illegal and can cause serious legal problems later.
